Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is a dental procedure that involves removing excess gum tissue and sometimes even bone to expose more of a tooth’s surface. It is typically done to prepare a tooth for a restoration such as a crown or bridge, or to improve the appearance of a “gummy” smile.
During the procedure, local anesthesia is used to numb the area, small incisions are made in the gum tissue to expose the tooth roots and surrounding bone. Excess tissue is removed and the gum line is reshaped as needed. If necessary, some bone tissue may be removed to expose more of the tooth’s surface.
After the procedure, your gums will be covered with a protective dressing while they heal. You may experience some discomfort or sensitivity, but this can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
If you’re interested in crown lengthening, schedule a consultation with your dentist to discuss whether it’s the right option for you. They can evaluate your oral health and help you decide on the best course of treatment.
